About us
A local resident initially launched Marlborough Makers as a Facebook page to serve as networking platform for locals who enjoy making things.
Marlborough Makers artist collective is a group of neighbors and volunteers who work to create community and a networking platform for artists and creative hobbyists in the Marlborough and surrounding Central MA area.
Why “makers” and not “artists”?
By referring to participants as makers we hope to broaden the scope of accessibility of public art exhibitions. Marlborough Makers is an informal group that includes both classically trained artists, as well as residents who are interested in creative hobbies. In our events participants from a wide range of creative backgrounds are given the opportunity to exhibit their works side by side.
Our Calls For Art post a $0 entry free and take a $0 commission, further encouraging people from various backgrounds to consider engaging in public art. The removal of financial barriers and commissions further supports artists when they make a sale. By reducing exhibition expenses, makers are able to set art prices that are low and affordable, creating more accessibility for the greater community to be able to purchase local artisan made goods rather than imported mass-produced products. Producing an exhibition for $0 could not be done without the help of volunteers and the participation of local business owners. By supporting this volunteer resident group you are supporting the greater community and local economy.
We hope to grow in volunteers to spur more creative activities and events across the city that work to support local small businesses and crafty individuals.
